If you haven't noticed, on my front page there is a link to a video about World Ballet Day. Why have I put it up on my front page? Well, that is because I checked it out last year and absolutely loved it, and I wanted to remind all of you that it's coming up on October 1st. There is an opportunity to see rehearsals from all of the big companies in the world of ballet. Including, the Bolshoi Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, The Australian Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, and the Royal Ballet. You can check out the Royal Ballet's post which gives a schedule for how the day will go and the hashtag to use on Twitter, Instagram, and other social media.
Last year, I only had an opportunity to watch the Royal Ballet's section, and I was not disappointed by what I got to see. I saw the company take morning class, which was an enlightening experience. Seeing these dediated performers work early in the morning motivated me to work harder on my own craft, and maybe try a few exercises.
There was also a riveting rehearsal of Manon, with Marianela Nuñez and Federico Bonelli in the title roles. Manon is a tragic ballet, and this rehearsal showed the last pas de deux, which is passionate, thrilling, and incredibly emotional. Marianela Nuñez is my favorite ballerina, and I've seen her in a live performance of Cinderella with American Ballet Theatre this past summer, and she is an incredibly technician and actress to boot. She tugs on your heart strings during this rehearsal, and Federico Bonelli matches her stride.
If you want to watch it live, you can check out the offical website or visit any of the companies YouTube channels. If you are unable to watch it live, all of the companies archive the footage for audiences to see later. I'm looking forward to a fabulous October 1st!
