So You Think You Can Dance has been airing on FOX for a total of 12 seasons. Over the course of 10 years, there have been numerous iconic routines staged for the show and as a fan, I have a fair share of my favorites. For the purposes of a blog post though, I've narrowed it down to my five favorites.
5. I Got You, Choreographed by NappyTabs, Dancers: Melanie Moore and Marko Gemar
I love this dance. The storyline is cute, a man who is left at the altar is comforted by his best friend, who he soon realizes he is in love with. A happy ending for a light-hearted lyrical hip-hop piece. Definitely a memorable piece for me!
4. If It Kills Me, Choreographed by Travis Wall, Dancers: Jeanine Mason and Jason Glover
This was the first piece that Travis Wall choreographed for SYTYCD after taking second place in the third season. Even though it was his first time choreographing a routine, it is a signature piece, showcasing lifts and emotion that is typical of his dances. From this piece alone, it is easy to understand why he has been nominated for so many Emmys.
3. Wicked Game, Choreographed by Travis Wall, Dancers: Amy Yakima and Travis Wall
Another piece by Travis Wall, but it definitely needed to be on this list. This piece is just breathtaking and unbelievably gorgeous. I just have no words honestly. Simply beautiful.
2. Get Out of Your Mind, Choreographed by Nappytabs, Dancers: Alex Wong and Twitch Boss
This routine is absolutely crazy. You would think from watching this routine alone that both dancers were naturally trained in hip hop. Wrong. Actually, Alex Wong (the dancer in red) is trained in classical ballet and had a single week to learn this routine. It is remarkable that he was able to achieve this level of hip hop when everything he was trained to do does not apply to hip hop. This routine was so iconic that during the finale episode, Ellen Degeneres parodied the routine with Twitch because Alex was injured.
1. Gravity, Choreographed by Mia Michaels, Dancers: Kayla Radomski and Kupono Aweau
Here it is. My absolute favorite piece from So You Think You Can Dance. I can't even put into words how much I love this routine. It's raw, it's emotional, it's relatable. I just can't get enough. The dance speaks for itself and for me, even without the rehearsal package at the beginning, the story is easy to understand. Definitely worthy of the number one spot.
And that is my top five favorite routines from So You Think You Can Dance. Tell me what you think about my choices! Also, if you watch So You Think You Can Dance tell me what your favorites are, I'd love to hear what they are!
