Kathryn Morgan, a former soloist with New York City Ballet, has been "off" the scene for a while. Her career was steadily climbing uphill until she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in spring of 2010. In an interview with the New York Times, Morgan says that she gained over 40 pounds, which is hard for a dancer, especially when professionals are expected to maintain a certain physique. Morgan left the company in 2012, but has since started her own YouTube Channel. As of right now, the channel has 37,000 subscribers and continues to grow with videos posted weekly by Morgan.

But you maybe asking, "Ally, why is she the fairy godmother of ballet?". Well, that is because Morgan provides a perfect platform for experienced and non-experienced dancers alike. She emphasises that ballet is not about being the most flexible, and encourages her followers to be the best that they can be.
Morgan has a variety of content available on her channel. She has several workout's available for beginners and experienced dancers. This is perfect for anyone who is open to trying ballet, but isn't quite ready to pay for a class, or perfect for an experienced dancer who is just looking to stay in shape.
In addition to a playlist full of work-outs, Morgan has technique tips (for those who are having trouble with certain steps), make-up tutorials (for both stage make-up and everyday make-up, she also uses drugstore products, which is a major plus) loads of advice (for those wanting to get started and young dancers who have no idea what step to take next in their career), and Q&A's.
Through her social media platforms, Kathryn Morgan is making ballet more accessible to a wide audience. Ballet Companies may have social media, but there is still a layer of secrecy, you are only allowed to see what they want you to see. However, Morgan is different. She is personable and is not afraid to talk about her struggles in the world of ballet and her journey in making her way back to the stage.
I encourage anyone that has an interest in ballet to check out her channel. She is informative and eager to share her story with her audience. So, if you have a minute of time, watch a video or try a workout, you'll never know what you may learn!
